JAMES BENJAMIN MAKER
HOLLOW MAN
This piece showed at the Dallas Country Club.
steel, powder coat
Artist's statement:
The figure is seated, holding his own face. He reveals his hollow and weak interior to the viewer. His face is cut out, breaking the illusion of solidity, breaking the illusion of permanence which is sought after relentlessly in this era of social media. The sculpture loses detail definition as it abstracts towards its feet, to show he’s losing his connection to the real world. He sits in the pose of a man staring at his phone, holding his ego and looking past it in wonder.
